Major Refurbishment Project at Maidstone Leisure Centre

We would like to let you know about the exciting changes that will be happening to your leisure centre over the next six months. Over £4 million is being spent on a major refurbishment of Maidstone Leisure Centre.The improvements include:

• New 100 station gym with the latest innovative fitness equipment
• New workout dance studio
• New spinning studio
• New gym changing rooms
• New Cafe Bar
• New toddler play pool and features
• New and improved flume feature
• New design and refurbished swimming pool changing areas
• Improved disabled changing rooms and facilities
• Improved poolside cafe servery
• Refurbished reception and improved customer access
• Refurbished and improved to the children’s soft play area Polar Adventure
• Refurbishment and decoration
• Replacement of building mechanical and electrical services

The investment into Maidstone Leisure Centre is being made by Maidstone Borough Council and will be managed by The Maidstone Leisure Trust and Serco Leisure.

The refurbishment work is split into two phases. Phase One will commence on Monday 12th October 2009 and the following areas will be closed from this date:

• Swimming Pool Changing Rooms
• Invicta Hall
• Health Suite
• Access Routes to the above areas

We have committed to keeping as much of the centre open during the refurbishment as possible so that you can still enjoy your leisure activities during this time. Whilst Phase One is being worked on the following temporary measures will be put into place:

• Gym changing rooms on the lower floor will be family and disabled swimming pool changing areas
• Fitness classes will be moved to Mote Hall and additional and alternative classes will be timetabled where space allows
• Alternative lockers will be in the lower corridor and on poolside
• Alternative access routes will be signposted throughout the centre

We will have a customer information notice board in the centre which will be updated regularly to keep you informed of the changes.

Phase Two of the refurbishment will commence on Monday 2nd November 2009. A customer update will be published closer to the date. Phase One of the refurbishment is scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2010 when some the new facilities will be opened and ready for customers to use and the remainder of the refurbishment work will be completed by the end of March 2010.
